Math about me middle school project general information
Math about me middle school projects seem to be few and far between. This tends to be a favorite project idea for elementary teachers. Students do simple math problems to state fun and interesting facts about themselves and their families. However, when it comes to a math about me activity, middle school students can benefit just as much as elementary students.
An all about me activity doesn’t have to consist of only basic math. If approached correctly, students can show their understanding from the previous year while providing insight to teachers.
Educators can learn more about students’ family lives and their math background with a math about me middle school project. This type of project makes for a cute display at Open House or is a great project to end the school year. If preferred, teachers can share the project with families for a digital Open House as well.
Print vs Digital
Often projects and activities such as this one are created on paper. However, a project such as this can easily be turned into a Google Slide activity. Instead of students filling out a paper copy of the project and including a picture of themselves, they can insert an image into Google Slides. Students can also include clipart and other images of their family and pets throughout.
Remember, whether creating a project like this digitally or on paper, be sure the math is age appropriate! I have two Math About Me Projects available in print and digital format. Conclusion
With any project, standards should drive your project requirements. Too often, projects like this do not actually cover the standards. However, this project can be a great way to learn what students remember from the previous school year. I use this project to gain student insight from the very beginning to find out what I need to do to best meet the needs of my students. Parents love seeing this project shared in person and digitally!
